Conversation, Context and connectivity

Today the things we are gooing to discuss all start with "C"

Our first move is the conversation in the Lingotek about:
"My favourite possession"

Use the Sanako player to record.

Save the file on your desktop( /file/save as:) and then mail it to me.
Always include the topic and names - For example:
possession_clara_petronella

Each time you should speak with someone new

We are pushed for time so try to be effective!

Afterwards today we are working in "Context 1"

If "Panic not mother" was a fun text, "Dad can I come home?" is a much more serious story.

It deals with the following themes:
FAMILY
RESPONSIBILITY
ACCEPTANCE

We are going to listen to the text and you can follow it in your books.

The story is set at a time when a war comes to an end.

"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" is also set in a war.

Sweden has not been at war  since the beginning of the 1800's.
Imagine if we lived in Syria instead of Sweden.

How would that feel like? Discuss with your neighbour.

Let's listen.

Now we are going to do some work from the text book on page 26-27.

Good luck!

Planner and introduction to the novel

Today we are going to distribute the novel (Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) and then go though the planner for the course.

It is very important that you take responsibility for your own studies and note all examinations etc. which will take place during the term

You also have weeks when you will plan your own work .

I want you to start off today by speaking to your neighbour about your week-end.
What did you do?
What was good about your week-end?
What was not so good?
Try to ask each other questions practising the use of the Past tense and DID.

Today we are going to go through the diagnosis. Tomorrow you get to see how it went for you.

Don't worry. It wasn't a DIE-agnosis
The results are very encouraging!

Monday, 2 September 2013

In context!

Now we are going to start working with "Context".
Before we do that let us look at how a language is made up

In the Swedish curriculum and grade guidelines, input is called .
"reception" and output is called "production" and "interaction."

We are going to look briefly at the Swedish document in order to see what we are going to learn and examine during the course.

Please take some notes annd write up what the course will involve..
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •

In "Context" we will practise all these skills. For today you had a reading exercise to do about the emails and letters from young people on their gap year.

You also had 25 words for today...

I want to take those in NOW.

You will see that their is no CD with the book. However, you can reach a lot of extra material online.

By tomorrow we want to give you the chance to use this at home.

Let us begin with a Youtube clip and some listening questions. They are on paper today!

Now we can listen to the texts and do some vocabulary work.

We will finish off with a discussion ( page 13 discussion questions) and for your homework I want you to write a few lines about a Gap Year experience you would like to do
