It is for two people- one from the constuction company and one from the conservation group.

Here are some words and short dialogues to help you:

B. might be a  bit lazy, but he has a good answer.
a. Are you green ?
b. What do you mean ? I don't have green skin.
a. I mean, do you recycle things ?
b. My mother recycles for me.
a. Maybe you could do something yourself.
b. My mother is very good at recycling.

11.2. Recycle

b. Yes, of course.
a. What do you do to recycle them ?
b. I give them to my father.

11.3. Help the Planet
B. is a lazy boy. A low soft chair might make it more fun.
a. Let's help the planet.
b. OK, I will help you to help the planet.
a. First, we have to decide what we want to do.
b. Well, it was your idea to help the planet.
a. I know, we can save energy.
b. Good idea, I will sit down and start right now.

11.4.The Rainforest
B. gives the wrong answer two times.
a. Millions of animals live in the rainforest.

a. Good, but how do you know that it is recycled ?
b. I don't always know if it is recycled.

11.5. Newspapers
a. Don't throw away your old newspapers; recycle them, please !
b. Of course. Look, I am going to put my newspapers in that big blue recycling bin.
11.6. Plant a tree

a. Tomorrow is "Plant a tree day".

b. Yes, we should take part.
a. How about meeting at 9 o'clock ?
b. Yes, that is a good idea.
a. We need to bring lots of food.
b. Yes, and lots of drinking water.
11.7. Global WarmingHere "heating up" used meaning gain heat, get hot.
a. Do you believe in global warming ?

b. What is global warming ?
a. Our planet is heating up.
b. Are you sure ?
a. Yes, I think the planet is getting hotter.
b. Well, we should do something about it then.

Now here is a role play for 4 people
There is an area of forest in a lost part of the world
1. You own a logging company and want to make money. You will just chop down the trees

2. You are the local chief and you have to make the final decision about the forest. your people are very poor and the loggers are offering a lot of money.

Darwin's Nightmare Part II

Today we continue to watch the film about the effects of the Nile Perch on the community around the southern part of Lake Victoria (see the Map)

The face of Mwanza the southern part of the Lake) has changed a lot because of the fishing industry and we have seen a lot of the downsides (AIDS, street children etc.) Some people have become very rich because of the fishing and many others have got jobs but the eco-system of the Lake has been very badly affected and the dream of getting cash has taken many from the villages only to get HIV/AIDS in the fishing villages where he level of infection is very high.

Look at the following link

Darwin's nightmare

As a compliment to the project which you are doing just now in social sciences and (natural) science we are goig to see a documentary film called "Darwin's Nightmare".

The film is a documentary showing the impact of one product- in this case the Nile Perch fish- on the economics, social structure and ecological balance in a whole area of Tanzania.

The film not only explores the good sides of the fish industry but also the negative effects (HIV/AIDS, street children, prostitution, exploitation, weapons' industry etc. etc.)

The film is not objective but it does give a very powerful image about how one little change (the planting of the fish in Lake Victoria) can bring about enormous effects.

Let it be an inspiration for you when you do your project work.

Welcome back!!

First of all let's do a short interview exercise about your half-term break.
I will give it to you on paper.

You will need a pen to do it

As you can see from the planner, today and tomorrow we are going to work on writing practice.

At the beginning of the term when you gave suggestions for the planner, one question was to give a writing assignment.

I got three good suggestions.

These are:
1. A big event

2. School and education

3. My future

Today we will start by looking at what writing is and why we need to be good at it.

I will use a power point which Pernilla had.

Afterwards I want you to start planning your writing for tomorrow.
