Visitors and "Boy in the striped Pyjamas"

Before we start check out the quizzes. There is a new quiz- nr. 4.................

Today we will  be having some visitors.

They are a same gender couple from England who are visiting Ingela (the English teacher).

Please make them feel at home and feel free to ask questions.
Find out where they come from and a little about their lives.

The theme of gender is one which we are to study this year as being a part of the curriculum for "Gymnasiet". We will continue the theme in week 43 when we will see the film "Billy Elliot".

After this we will go over to the book we are reading, namely "The boy in the striped pyjamas"

You will have a worksheet to do.
Here it is.

I want you to work first of all in groups of 3-4 and answer questions 1-3.

Then in pairs answer questions 4-5.

Then ON YOUR OWN  answer questions 6-7 plus the following question

8. Bruno is quite afraid of his father. Yet in this chapter he really tells him what he thinks of the new home.
How surprised were you by this? How does his father react to Bruno's anger?  The last lines of the chapter (CHAPTER 5)tell us more about the relationship between Bruno and his father. What do you find out?

Hand in your answers on the worksheet. Write your name on the top.

Country Project

Today we are going to start a short intensive project about an English speaking Country.

Here are the instructions:

Presentation of an English-Speaking Country:

In your groups of three:

Prepare a presentation which helps your fellow students understand and get to know an English speaking country by looking for interesting facts about the language, history, geography, culture (e.g. food, music, lifestyle), fauna, population, political system, or any other interesting aspect of your particular country. Try to approach your task by focusing on aspects that would be interesting to you if you were to visit the country you study. You should also focus on comparing your country to Sweden.

Use the worksheet to help you!

All the material used by you should be in English!

In your presentation you direct yourselves to your fellow students, NOT to me:

Example of dialect

Nice graphics of nature, art, typical features of your country (e.g. Australia: picture of boomerang)
Poetry, fiction
Interesting sites

Make some 1/x/2-questions for the rest of the group to answer.
Hand in to me the day prior to the presentation.

Make a personal wordlist of 25 words from the material that you have worked with, only fill in the first English and Swedish column.

When listening to the other groups’ presentations:

Activate yourself by thinking of questions to ask which might interest the rest of the audience or you. If you know about the country in question, share your knowledge with the rest of the group.

Tomorrow we will make a break to work on the first 5 chapters of "The Boy in the striped pyjamas"

We will also being receiving a visit from a same gender couple who are friends of Ingela (the English teacher).

As a continuation of the gender issue we shall be looking at the film "Billy Elliot" in week 43.

Tuesday, week 42 the presentations will take place:
