Please work in small groups (max. 4 students)
Here they are as text and as a document:

Discuss
1 What new things do we learn about Lieutenant
Kotler?

2 Why doesn't Bruno stand up for Shmuel? What would have happened if he had?

3 Shmuel sees the camp from the inside and the people closest to him all disappear. How does be deal with this?

4 Why is Lieutenant Kotler transferred?

5 Gretel tries to explain to Bruno about the fence. Does her explanation make sense to him? Do you think she understands it herself?

6 What does Bruno's disappearance do to his family?

Finally, I want to talk to each one of you individually aboout how you found the end of the book.

Presentation tomorrow

Today is the last day to be ready to present tomorrow.

Welcome back to a new week.
It will soon be Christmas.

By the end of today three things should be done:

  • The presentation should be complete and a copy sent to me

  •  5 questions (1 X 2) about your presentation should be complete and sent to me

  • You should practise your presentation so that you know who is presenting which part. ALL the people in the group must be active during the presentation.

When you are ready then use your time to either :-

Write your diary

Read the last chapters of "Boy in the striped Pyjamas" for next Tuesday.

Those who haven't spoken to me about their young people and money essay can also do so today.

Presentations, essays and other things

Today we start to prepare the second presentation you will do this term in front of the class.

Last time you talked about an English speaking country. This time the subject matter is a free choice.

You should work with another person or maximum three people in a group.

You should present an area of interest for you

(Examples might be a sport, a hobby, a game, an activity, an item from history, a person etc.)

The presentation should be of about 5 minutes and should be done using a presentation tool (Prezi, Impress, Powerpoint etc.)

There should be a worksheet with 5 questions (as last time) based on your presentation.

Every student will assess one presentation (a worksheet is available)

The presentations will be on Tuesday week 49 (next Tuesday) and Monday week 50

Today we are going to discuss your essay individually.

Some basic comments:
  • Always have an introduction and a conclusion to your essay
  • Always use paragraphs- one idea= one paragraph
  • Written language is DIFFERENT from spoken language.
Your essay is assessed according to the following points:

Innehåll(content)

Tydlighet (clarity)

Fyllighet och variation (Completeness and clarity)

Sammanhang och struktur (Context and structure)

Anpassning till syfte, mottagare, situation, genre (adaptation to purpose, recipient, situation, genre)

Språk och Uttrycksförmåga (language and expression)

Kommunikativa strategier (language strategies)

Flyt och ledighet (Fluency and ease of expression)

Vokabulär (vocabulary)

Boy in the striped pyjamas 10-14

Today I want you to work in groups of 3-4 students and answer the questions about them

Discuss
1 What do you think Shmuel thinks of Bruno when they first meet?
2 Why doesn't Bruno like Hitler?
3 Bruno finds Shmuel's and his own story similar. How?
4 Why doesn't Bruno tell his family about his new friend?
5 Why does Shmuel react the way he does when Bruno talks about Lieutenant Kotler?
6 Is there anything in the book that suggests that Bruno understands what kind of place the camp is? If so, what?
If not, how is Bruno able to keep his distorted picture of the camp?

7 What does the punishment of Pavel teach Bruno? Do you think this is something that people around Bruno have learnt too?

Here it is IN RTF format

I want you to try to find a quote "  "   from the book to back up what you say.

When you are done with these questions you can continue to work with your own chapter in Context. (chs. 3-7)

Finish off by doing a short recording with Mike about what your text was about.

Of mice and Men!!!

Sometimes we plan things without using our brains!!!!!!

Your term planner for English is a very good example.

It seem like I had a mental blackout at the time of writing!

So the new planner is now on the blog.

Everything in yellow has been replanned to fit in with the planners of my two colleagues working with your fellow "stud" students.

Let's start off by going through this together.

So today we are going to look at Skolverket's resources for the national test....

Tomorrow you will practise the "WRITING" section.

Here are two good links to help you
1. Bedömning/assessment of writing

2. Examples of different parts of the national test

The title of the essay which is marked is called "The good life"
Here is the paper which the students got.

Here is an essay on "E" grade level

Here is an essay on "C" grade level

Here is an essay on "A" grade level

What differences do you see between them?

Tomorrow you will write about a different subject in class.

As usual, there are two topics on the same theme:

One is more general (abstract)

The other one is more specific (concrete).

Points to remember

1. Plan
Plan the ideas you are going to use and how you will write them

2. Structure
a.
  • Introduction     (Use a grabber or not). Start off generally
  •  Points- compare or develop
  • Conclusion       What have you learnt?
b.
  • linking words
linkingwords
  • spelling (hard words)
 Here is a good link
3. Write

4. Check
Check agreements, spelling, grammar
